DVD review

I did Tracy Anderson's Metamorphosis DVD for the first time- see yesterday's post. And here's what I thought:

I was supposed to start with the dance cardio session, but did the sculpting session first. Which I LOVED. 30 minutes of that? 6 days a week? NO PROBLEM! It was awesome. And with her DVDs you change the sculpting  session every 10 days so it doesn't get old. I love that!

Then I put in the cardio disk. Have I told you how much I don't like cardio?! Cause I don't and this was no exception. I gotta admit and felt super silly "dancing" in my living room. I don't know if it's really dancing as much as jumping up and down and kicking your feet. Maybe that is dancing? After 5 minutes I didn't know how I was going to last for another 25. Not because it was so hard, but because it was boring. The arches on my feet hurt the whole time- I may need to wear more supportive shoes and not my running shoes. But I did sweat and I could definitely feel it working muscles I don't normally move; which was the point.

When she said, "Your in the home stretch" I basically stood there and watched her finish the last 5 minutes. I was over it. 6 days a week of this? Ummmm......

All this to say... I'm going to give it a go! I'll definitely invest 30 days and commit to it. I don't know that I'll be keeping up with the cardio DVD 6 days a week, but may do it 3 days a week and mix it up with running. Did I tell you I signed up for a Spartan race in December?! Beyond exciting!  My results may take longer, but hey, we're also supposed to enjoy exercising and how we spend our time each day. I think if there is a type of exercise you prefer over another, then do it. As long as your moving and keep that heart rate up!

So, I'm in. 30 days. I wrote down my starting measurements. Write down yours too! Even if you're not doing the videos, just so you know your progress in 30 days. Bust, biceps, waist (at belly button), hips and thighs and your weight. Remember to measure around the fullest part of those areas.

Tracy tells you to remeasure every 10 days, so I'll let you know if there's any difference then. My guess is I won't see any results before 2 weeks.

Happy working out!

  1. Dancing is not for everyone and I do feel a bit weird doing it as well so I don't see any problem with substituting it with any other cardio regime. Besides building/toning muscles is better for burning the fat and keeping it off in the long run so that is what I focus on :) Keep up the good work everyone no matter what your fitness level is.

  2. Definitely invest in a pair of cross-trainers for the cardio! They have more support for side-to-side movements and more arch support. Last year I injured my knee when I tried to use running shoes for a Jillian Michaels' DVD I was doing! Cross-trainers have made all the difference!

  4. I have tried her workouts too. I also have done her 30 day program (it was a book she did before Metamorphosis) I like her workouts and they get results, but the cardio is boring. I have not been able to stick with it. I will try for the next 30 days, but I may have to switch up the cardio. Thanks for your encouragement and honesty.

  6. love how candid your comments are. I used to do exercise dvds in my living room but then my kids cam home from school one day last fall and said it smelled sweaty in the living room. Finally Got my courage up, joined a gym at end of june (everything takes me a long time when it comes to exercise. I have been going 3 or 4 times a week (2x week with a trainer) Today I pushed myself a little more and took a class, it had alot of jumping and stepping and was a challenge but i feel good for having tried it. I like working with the trainer cause he's constantly correcting my form and showing me how to do things without hurting my knees (now if he would just be on time!!!). We both agree I have to really work on my core strength as it is quite weak and I'm forcing him to focus on this with me each session for a least 1/4 of the time. I so love that you are commenting on this weight and exercise process. I am on day 9 of 30 of a concerted effort to cut down on my carb consumption as I am always craving bread products. Will see if it works :) Thanks for providing this forum for all of us, I love reading everyones comments too

  7. Haha! You actually made me giggle. It is nice to see how real you are from bailing on your workout with Val to dreading cardio! I'm not a huge running fan, but I see my quickest results that way. My favorite cardio workout is Zumba. I've not tried the DVDs, but I love the classes at my local YMCA. I felt silly at first, but once I learn the routines, I feel great(unless I look at myself in the wall mirror)! I have used DVDs at home, but I'm usually afraid I'm going to wake the boys from their nap and it's just not as challenging working out in front of a 1 & 4 year old! Apparently my 4 year old liked watching because he just asked me the other day why I don't exercise any more. I had to tell him I just do it before he wakes up now! Lol!
Great job everyone on trying new things and making commitments for a better you!

  10. Sorry this is off topic. Candace, I know fitness is your big thing, especial with your book out right now and everything. As a young mom with little ones, I would love to see something from you (a blog series?) about marriage, parenting and home keeping; books/methods you might recommend, etc. any chance of something like that coming from you?
