Reshaping it All - Day 39

This week we've been talking about thoughts that wear us down like school-yard bullies, and how we might conquer those thoughts. In chapter eleven Candace writes,

Instead of conquering bullies, we need to focus on conquering thoughts since harassment travels through our brain before settling in. We can't change the world, but we can change the way we react to it. Neither words nor thoughts can affect us without our thought pattern allowing them. Temptation acts much the same way. It's a smell, a sound or a visual cue that travels through our thoughts before it becomes a desire. (Reshaping it All, page 121)

And how do these bullies get under our skin? They entice us by stimulating our desire to touch, taste, see, feel and hear.

But each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. ~ James 1:14, NIV

If you are struggling to reshape your life, make an effort to protect yourself from those things that bring your down by avoiding them. For example, don't walk into a bakery if you have an addiction to doughnuts, and don't bring chips into the house if they aren't part of your plan.

Guard your senses before they become thoughts. But if and when they do become thoughts that lead you into paths of temptation, take each one captive as soon as you can.
