On page 133, Candace defines the word conscious as: “acting with critical awareness, as in a conscious effort to do better.” This is a subject that I humbly and openly admit that I struggle with. I have a few favorite foods that I overeat unconsciously.
Since I was a child I've had a funny relationship with chips and dip - my favorite - yet my most hated food! I love them so much, I hate them, because I literally cannot stop once I start eating them - therefore - you will NEVER find chips and dip in my home unless we have company coming. I have a few other foods I feel this way about also. I know they are unhealthy for me - but my cravings always seem to be stronger than my self-control!
Elizabeth George has noted "The best exercise is to exercise discretion at the dining table."
Elizabeth Elliot said of Daniel "Discipline is evident on every page of the life of Daniel...The first thing that sets Daniel apart is a decision regarding food...It was the beginning of the Lord's preparation of a man whose spiritual fiber would be rigorously tested later on." Daniel was a man who paid attention to what went into his mouth and how it affected him.
And we learn from Jonathon - that we MUST eat. In I Samuel 14, Saul sent his men into battle and told them not to eat until they had finished the battle--the entire army was faint. Jonathon did not know of Saul's order and he dipped his finger in honey and ate and the Bible says "His countenance was brightened." And Jonathon says of the fainting army "How much better if the people had eaten freely today".
God wants us to fuel our body with food, yet we need to be conscious of the food we are putting into our mouths. That is why I LOVE the Reshaping It All Challenge! It is making me think before I eat, and that makes ALL the difference!

Time for a Giveaway!
Courtney has a special GIVEAWAY for us from her other website, Good Morning Girls!! I'll let her tell you about it:
GoodMorningGirls.org offers quiet-time “tech accountability groups.” Right now we have over 1,500 Good Morning Girls and we are having a great summer session together!
Now for the giveaway... I'm excited to share The Family Reading Bible by Zondervan! I read out of it daily to my children – ages 6 and 8.
While I love to read picture Bible books to my children, we are at a point where they are desiring the meat of God’s word. So this Bible has been perfect for us!
Here’s a few reasons why:
- It has a reading plan inside the Bible. You can choose to use their reading plan or go at your own pace. (We go at our own pace.)
- It has questions throughout the Bible for discussions with the kids. These are so helpful to keep a good dialogue going.
- It’s fun to have a Bible that is designated as the “Family Bible.” It sits on our kitchen table and we read it over breakfast or lunch (my children are homeschooled). Then I mark and date the day we read it.
My dream is to read through the entire family Bible before the children are 18.
Some days the children listen intently and beg for more reading – so we cover large passages or have long talks. Other days, their attention span is short and we can only read a few verses.
GoodMorningGirls.org would like to give away one copy of the Family Reading Bible to a Reshaping It All reader!

ReplyDeleteI am so loving our Bible conversations and am wanting to have Bible reading time together with my children. I am being intentional about each of our devotional times in the morning and would like to add a Bible Reading time. We too homeschool and am so thankful for that so that we can have more time to be investing God time into our children's lives. I love the idea of completing reading the Bible with them before they are 18, I think that I too will set this goal. I am so excited to check this Bible out more. Thank you for the giveaway.
