A pinch of practicality from chapter 17:
If treats or bonus points are a part of your healthy plan, try to save them for the end of the day when possible. It's always nice to have something to look forward to. However, if we consume our rewards too early in the day, we might give in to a feeling of deprivation. It's always nice to feel that balance when we have had a good day and can rest assured that enjoying a treat is a guilt-free snack.
Be cautious that you don't overindulge. Choose your portion beforehand and stick to your rule. Enjoy every bit, and remember that it's still going to be there tomorrow. (Reshaping it All, page 210)
And a wise quote from C.S. Lewis:
A silly idea is current that good people do not know what temptation means. This is an obvious lie. Only those who try to resist temptation know how strong it is... A man who gives in to temptation after five minutes simply does not know what it would have been like an hour later. That is why bad people, in one sense, know very little about badness. They have lived a sheltered life by always giving in. ~ C.S. Lewis

ReplyDeleteI used to have a giant bowl of ice cream before bed each night. I mean GIANT. I realized how unhealthy it was and was able to stop doing that a year ago. Now I have a very small scoop or something else very small. I even try to skip a few days so that I am not always having treats.
ReplyDeleteAwesome book ~ thank you so much! :) Thank you also for going through it with us!
ReplyDeleteI love that CS Lewis quote....
ReplyDeleteI also love the reminder to save rewards to the end of the day. I find my days seem brighter when there is something sweet to look forward to at the end.
I was proud of my self today when going shopping I skiped the chip aile and bought "gold fish" and I LOVE them so much more probably will be finishing the book tonight again thanks candace

A great tip my parents have given me is to use your treat or dessert as a snack. We have all been eating smaller meals more frequently. So, I wait at least 2 hours after eating my meal before having dessert. I still watch portion size, and even calories for a snack (depends on what I'm having, but I don't count calories at meal time). People can't believe we eat whatever we want(and have been slimming down), but I know Candance says the same thing in the book!
ReplyDeleteThis blog is such an encouragement!
ReplyDeleteI've been getting up early so I can have my QT before I do anything else for the day...reshaping myself spiritually first so I can reshape physically as well!!
ReplyDeleteI've wanted to read the book for a while. I just graduated college and am unemployed. Hoping to start living a healthier life and lose my freshman 15 (+more) I gained.
ReplyDeleteEmail me at Carolynshea89@aol.com if I am lucky enough to win.
I would be so honored and blessed to win this prize package. *fingers crossed*
